Student Civics Leadership Initiative — home

Building theNext generation ofInformed & engagedCitizens.

The Student Civics Leadership Initiative (SCLI) is a national program led by @Vote that builds a pipeline of civic leadership from K–12 schools to colleges and universities. SCLI works with student leaders at colleges and universities to appoint Voter Registration Czars who coordinate with statewide leaders and K–12 schools to expand civic education, voter registration, and participation. By connecting leaders across every level of education, SCLI creates a scalable model capable of strengthening civic engagement nationwide.

The impact we aim to create

SCLI is a national, pro-America civic education initiative designed to:

  • Empower college and university leaders to appoint Voter Registration Czars and train student Civic Ambassadors.
  • Strengthen student knowledge of American history, civics, government, and constitutional principles.
  • Expand understanding of voter registration, pre-registration, elections, and civic participation.
  • Provide states and schools with lasting digital tools, technology, and civic education resources, including underserved and rural communities.
  • Measure impact through pre- and post-program assessments.
  • Build a scalable model that schools, student governments, and states can implement nationwide.

From civic knowledge
to civic participation

At its core, SCLI is built around a simple idea: informed participation begins with civic understanding.

Students should know how their government works, understand the principles and institutions that shape American civic life, and know how they can participate.

SCLI creates that pathway — connecting civic education, student leadership, voter education, and meaningful participation to prepare young people for a lifetime of informed civic engagement.
